A real training format that reduces early turnover and helps team members feel connected to the brand from day one.

New Hire Training • Onboarding Format

The Problem: New Hires Needed Structure and Support

A well-structured onboarding experience is vital for setting new team members up for success and reducing early turnover. Newk's recognizes that the first few days and weeks are critical for building confidence, establishing expectations, and helping team members feel connected to the brand. By investing in comprehensive new hire training, Newk's creates an environment where team members feel supported from the start and are equipped with the knowledge they need to thrive in their roles.

The New Hire Onboarding Module: A Closer Look

Newk's has designed their new hire training module in Opus to provide a comprehensive introduction to the brand while keeping information manageable and actionable. The module guides new team members through everything they need to know to start their journey at Newk's successfully.

Automatic Scheduling

Once a new team member signs into Opus, they are automatically assigned the new hire training module. Every person starts with this basic overview.  Once team members complete this module, they'll move onto their role-based training modules.

Mobile-First, Bite-Sized Format

Newk's New Hire Onboarding consists of 13 courses, broken down into the following sections:

  • Welcome (3 courses)
  • Culture Card (4 courses)
  • Health & Safety (6 course)

The complete training takes less than 30 minutes total, but is spread over about 2 weeks to allow for practice and reinforcement between sections. Once team members complete this module, they'll move onto their role-based training modules.

Hands-On Verification via Check-ins

Throughout the module, new hires alternate between learning content and practical applications. After completing a section in Opus, team members practice their skills on the floor with a trainer who verifies their understanding with a 1:1 check-in.

Multi-Format Content (Video + Job Aids)

Rich media content, including videos and images, helps bring the brand story to life. The module seamlessly weaves Newk's culture and values into every lesson. From food safety protocols to customer service standards, new team members learn not just what to do, but why it matters to the Newk's experience.

The Results: Consistent First Impressions and Better Connection

With a 90% completion rate, Newk's new hire training demonstrates strong engagement from the start.

Consistent First Impressions: Every new hire, regardless of location, receives the same warm welcome and clear introduction to Newk's culture. The module ensures that from day one, team members understand what makes Newk's special and how they contribute to the brand's success.
